Sunday Worship and Christian Education
11 AM Worship (10 AM July and August)
Transformative worship blending innovation and tradition. Open communion celebrated weekly. Children begin their worship experience by joining their families in the sanctuary. Following a special children’s lesson with the Rev. Lee Ann they leave the sanctuary for age-appropriate activities.
Special seasonal services for Advent, Christmas Eve, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.
Sunday SchoolChristian Education is offered for children and youth from pre-school through seventh grade in an innovative workshop rotation program. Workshop rotations provide opportunities for the children and youth to gather with others in their age group to explore key spiritual teachings through art, film, computers, song, games, cooking, and other avenues. Older kids are welcomed to join the experience, to assist and/or to serve as role models for younger children.
The theme for the summer program this year is Hero Quest. The six-week program will run from mid-July until the end of August. The program is designed to give children an understanding of what makes an ordinary person a hero. After a week of experiencing the Hero Quest missions, children will come to know that being a true hero has nothing to do with the super heroes they read about in comic books or see in the movies. What makes an ordinary person a hero is what is in that person’s heart. The program will look at stories of Ester and Daniel and New Testament stories. The CCC summer program utilizes outdoor, cooperative games that allow the children to be more physically active in the learning process.
Celebration Sunday, the second Sunday in September, kicks off the theme for the 2010-2011 school year which is “Including All, Loving All.” This curriculum will look at physical and emotional “differentness” and how we as Christians can learn from our differently abled members of our community. The main scriptural basis for this program is 1 Corinthians 14: “Indeed the body does not consist of one member but of many” and 1 Corinthians 13:4: “Love is patient, love is kind. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” As God’s people we should love and appreciate others and be willing to learn from one another and work together. The five-week fall rotation will begin September 19 and will utilize community members to help explore this theme.
